I’m a skilled communicator, problem-solver and investigator. My professional and volunteer experience spans over 25 years in healthcare, Community Living and policing. Through an in depth understanding of conflict and conflict management, I guide individuals and groups on their own pathway to harmonious success at home, work and in the community.
I specialize in getting to the bottom of what’s going on through dialogue, inquiry and analysis to help you generate solutions that stick. I train people (and people in social groupings- teams, boards, companies, families, CEOs, employees, managers) to work through frustrating and ineffective communication with confidence and skill to get more done, in a better way.
In my various roles I resolved complex health care complaints, investigated alleged concerns and critical incidents and led a team of public health regulatory professionals. I have worked in and supervised unionized care settings. In 2007 I completed my Master of Arts degree in Conflict Analysis and Management from Royal Roads University as well as became a trained victim-young offender mediator. I have formerly served as a director on a police board contributing civilian oversight and governance to the operations of a municipal police department and been a civilian investigator of police with the Ministry of Justice. I have held the role of president of a branch of the Navy League of Canada which sponsors the national Sea Cadet program for youth.
My practice in conflict management is very much guided by the principles of Community Living and Restorative Justice.
- Principles of Community Living:
Respect, Dignity, Equality, Diversity, Human Rights, Justice, Self-Determination, Mutual Responsibility, Inclusion, Moral Courage
- Principles of Restorative Justice:
Recognition of Harm, Inclusion, Accountability, Facilitated Dialogue, Truth, Voluntary Participation, Safety, Choice, Holism, Humanism, Reparation
I continue to work within Community Living at promoting inclusion and quality of life for individuals with “diversabilities”. I enjoy spending time with my young adult children and hosting dinner parties to try out new recipes with friends. My interests include literature, kayaking and music.
I am based in the Greater Vancouver Area and meet amazing people every day in the community and online. My services are available in person and electronically. I can design a plan to work with you via Skype or Face Time or we can arrange to work together when travel brings me to your area. Reach out and let me know a little about your situation.
